1. Cathedral Notre-Dame of Papeete

A historical place but also a “zero” point. In the centre of Papeete, from there started the mileage of the whole island tour. The construction of the cathedral of Papeete planned from 1844 finished the day before Christmas 1875. Based on a former style, it has the particularity of possessing a gothic form. The cathedral is a figure of Papeete’s history, witness of a tidal wave in 1906, the bombing of the town by German destroyers the 22nd of September 1914, cyclones in 1983 and riots in 1987. Several generations of children were baptized and did their first communion there.
