For that time, let’s focus on a French navigator! Born in 1729 in Paris, Louis Antoine de Bougainville started a world-round journey in 1766 with naturalists, draftsmen and astronomers. Arrived in April 1768 on board of the La Boudeuse frigate, he was the first French settler in Tahiti. The Bougainville bronze bust, created by the architect Bertone in 1909, was initially planted on the quay in front of the Marine building. It is only in 1968 that the Bougainville bronze bust has been transferred in the park.
