Close your eyes and imagine this place if you don't know it yet. The protestant church of Paofai is somehow the heart of the French Polynesia Evangelistic Church. It was set up in 1981 and thus replacing the first chapel made up with bamboos and plaited leaves built by the founder of Papeete, the clergyman Crook, to substitute the 1906 Silamoa Church that became too small. However the spire has been conserved. During the Sunday church service, you can hear the wonderful anthems singed with fervour by a closed mob dressed with their Sunday bests and wearing magnificent vegetable fibre hats.
