Ficus prolixa

This is not an ordinary tree. This banyan ancient tree (between 300 and 400 years old!) should be protected for several reasons. On the one hand because it turns out that it is probably the only indigenous specie visible in the town (plant which presence is not linked to the Man). On the second hand because it is a “historical banyan tree” in which the painter Gauguin loved to savour his daily wormwood in the two meters- high wooden deck built in the branches.
