A mythical place. Henri Matisse (1869-1954) a talented French painter arrived in Tahiti at 61 years old. In March the 29th 1930, he disembarked in the port of Papeete and settled in the most recent hotel around: the Stuart hotel. The latter which is next to the American consulate is managed by the Scottish William Stuart and his wife. Matisse has an accommodation with view on the seafront on the third floor, that giving Matisse the opportunity to see the whole town of Papeete. From his window, he painted one of his most famous painting, the view on Papeete's harbour.
