A 15 years old girl, Marau Salmon, got married in 1875 with the crown prince Ariiaue Pomare, aged 35, who became king two years later. The wedding did not last and Marau, as a queen, went back to live with her mother Ari’taimai who had a wooden house built in 1900, next to the current post office.

The queen Marau and her 3 children set in this modest house usually called the “royal bungalow” and dedicated the rest of her life to write down, study and translate her people oral traditions.
