. Le temple protestant de Paofai est en quelque sorte le cœur de l'Église Évangélique de Polynésie Française. Il a été érigé en 1981 sur le site de la première petite chapelle en bambous et feuilles tressées construite par le fondateur de Papeete, le révérend Crook en remplacement de l’ancien temple Siloama de 1906 devenu trop étroit. Il en conserve toutefois la flèche.
A l'office du Dimanche, on entend des hymnes magnifiques chantés avec ferveur par une foule de fidèles vêtus de leurs habits du dimanche et coiffés de magnifiques chapeaux de fibres végétales.
The Church of Paofai
Close your eyes and imagine this place if you don’t know it yet. The protestant church of Paofai is somehow the heart of the French Polynesia Evangelistic Church. It was set up in 1981 and thus replacing the first chapel made up with bamboos and plaited leaves built by the founder of Papeete, the clergyman Crook, to substitute the 1906 Silamoa Church that became too small. However the spire has been conserved. During the Sunday church service, you can hear the wonderful anthems singed with fervour by a closed mob dressed with their Sunday bests and wearing magnificent vegetable fibre hats.
